Decades after society collapses, Haven follows David, a twenty-something human making a desperate attempt at survival as the world violently changes around him. He and his friends must do anything it takes to build a home for themselves and stay alive.
SERIES STATUS: Complete.
Decades following the collapse of society thanks to a manmade virus that created both zombies and a half-dozen new types of inhuman species, humans and inhumans live together in a decent semblance of society. Though the undead and vicious marauders roam the landscape, the average survivor can expect to have a decent life within a settlement.
But that all changed. The virus has mutated. Now, the inhumans are just as susceptible to the virus as the humans, and they're turning into lethal monsters straight out of a living nightmare. Thousands are dying as the evolving undead rip the world apart a second time.
David is a born survivor, but when he finds himself stranded in the wilderness as winter sets, he's not sure he'll be able to make it. Finding a few other survivors, who happen to be very attractive women looking for help and something a bit more, he's going to have to find some way to make it all work...
David and his two inhuman lovers, Evelyn and April, just learned the hard way that the abandoned cabin they've tried to make their home isn't going to work out.
After a midnight assault left their makeshift home in shambles, David sets out to seek a more defensible home. As he discovers it in the form of some nearby campgrounds, the trio begin making a new home and learning how to manage their budding relationship.
But it's never easy. Undead horrors and murderous thieves who stalk the nearby frozen forests and the relentless cold of winter are all making it hard to stay alive. On top of that, they keep encountering desperate survivors, and David is learning that he can't just turn a blind eye to their suffering. And to complicate matters even further, he now has the attention of an absurdly sexy redhead...
But honestly, is having to balance three attractive, sexually enthusiastic women who all want your attention really that much of a problem?
David is downright shocked at how well things have been going. Despite everything: the cold, the undead, the attacks by bandits and raiders in the region, and the fact that more people have shown up on his doorstep, looking for help, everything is actually running smoothly at the abandoned campgrounds that he and his three lovers now call home.
Only he knows that a good thing can't last forever, and sometimes you have to fight to protect what's yours. Two weeks have passed since the last direct assault on his new home, and a string of bad blizzards have kept him from doing much more than making occasional ventures into the wilderness to look for supplies. But now the blizzards have passed, and he and his friends are determined. They've painted a target on the thieves that have terrorized this region for the past several months, and intend to eliminate them.
It won't be easy. They obviously have numbers, and guns. But David is determined to do this, and he knows he can't be the only one who hates their guts. His quest for allies will take him all over the region, where he will make new friends, and maybe a few new enemies, and perhaps even a few more friends with benefits...
In the wake of the successful attack on the group of raiders that had been harassing the whole region for months on end, including burning down River View, David and his group realize that now is no time to rest. If anything, the time has come to step up their game and start taking their role as community leaders more seriously.
There's a lot to do. Although their victory has given them a fair stash of new guns and ammo, they're still severely lacking when it comes to food, tools and supplies to repair the more dilapidated cabins in their homestead, medicine to stave off the inevitable sicknesses, and more technologically advanced devices to help them not just survive but thrive.
As they make a list of all the things they need and all the places those things might be, David realizes that this is going to be no simple set of tasks, and that he is going to be put to the test once again. To complicate matters more, he still needs to figure out the delicate balancing act of having three girlfriends, one of whom is now pregnant with his child...
Six weeks have passed since the official founding of the settlement known as Haven.
In that time, things have settled into a nice routine for David and the ladies in his life. He's been surprised to learn that he actually makes a half-decent village leader, though he imagines some of that has to do with the fact that he shares the job with three very capable women. But things have been going well. Their settlement is well-guarded, their people are happy, and they have a steady stream of food, clean water, and firewood to stay warm during the long, cold nights of winter.
But he can't deny that something feels wrong. The stalkers, nymphs who have been turned into the undead, have been stepping up their attacks, and there seem to be more of them than ever. His suspicions are confirmed when Lara, their military friend (with benefits for him), shows up and asks for help. One of Lima Company's scouting squads has gone missing investigating the increase in undead activity, and they are officially asking Haven for help.
David agrees, but as the joint operation heads into the dead forests to investigate the situation, they uncover proof that not only is the threat far worse than they could have imagined, but the fundamental nature of the stalkers is shifting in a far more terrifying way...
Winter is dying and spring is bringing the land back to life.
In the weeks that followed the successful campaign to eliminate the stalker menace, David and the ladies have returned to Haven. It's been a peaceful four weeks, a return to as close to 'normal' as you can get in a post-apocalyptic world where undead monsters roam the landscape and humans live alongside a half-dozen different species of inhumans.
But a new threat has been brewing the whole time, looming on the horizon like dark clouds before a brutal storm: the vipers. The water-bound monsters have been boiling up out of the lake not far from Haven all winter, more than there should be, attacking places where normally they wouldn't be found. And it's only getting worse.
Lara, the badass military babe from Lima Company, shows up with another proposition: her group wants to pair with the warriors of Haven once again to deal with the growing threat of the vipers. David immediately agrees, and they set to work on figuring out how to handle this situation. Unfortunately, it's not going to be as straightforward as last time. They're going to need the help of an expert, and the only expert they can find is Azure, one of the inhumans known as the squids, who live in the lake and keep to themselves. And just like last time, it's going to take everything to get through this alive...
Things finally settled down for David and the ladies.
After tackling the dual menaces of the stalkers and the vipers, they have at last secured peace for themselves. And though the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, a blessedly boring routine settling in, David has stayed vigilant. He knows that nothing lasts forever, and peace can be snatched away in an instant.
The day he's waiting for arrives as summer bakes the land and a new group of people appear in the region. Though standoffish at first, he soon learns that they're refugees of a tragic situation and are just looking for a new home. As he and the others agree to help them, David begins taking on a new journey, but in doing so may put himself, and those he loves, on a more dangerous path than ever before...
The worst has happened. A hostile force has invaded the region and overrun Haven.
Having been knocked unconscious at the beginning of the surprise attack, David awakens to a nightmare: two days have passed, and the Marauders own everything. All of the settlements are completely under their control, almost everyone in the whole region has been captured, and their patrols are everywhere.
But it isn't all hopeless. They've prepared for this, and as David heads out into the night to learn just how bad things are, he begins running into his friends who are still free and very much active. Now, he must gather together his scattered allies to begin a campaign of guerilla warfare against the Marauders. They will have to rescue their allies, take out patrols, and scavenge whatever supplies they can get their hands on.
It's not going to be easy, but David has fought way too hard to make this place his home to give up now...
The Marauders have been driven out. Haven is safe. Sanctuary is safe.
David and the women he loves and his people are safe. For now.
Times are changing, and they are going to have to change with them. David can't help but feel that the end of an era is upon him, and the dawn of a new age is coming. Right now is an intermission, a time of transition, a time of reflection. They've all come a long way. They're all different people now.
As he goes about preparing for whatever may come, David makes sure to spend time with each of the women in his life...
Half of humanity mutated into mindless zombies. Half the survivors mutated into the inhumans: various new species of people with new appearances and abilities. Some grew scales, some grew fur, some could fly, some could survive only underwater.
Decades passed, and from the ashes of the old world, a new patchwork civilization rose. Humans and inhumans lived in tentative peace, and the zombies turned out to be not much of a threat once a few generations of survivors had come and gone.
All that changed last spring when the virus mutated again. Now, the inhumans are mutating into lethal horrors and running rampant, murdering thousands.
David is a survivor. Born decades after the collapse, his is a life of lonely wandering. As the first winter in this new world of dangerous monsters sets, he finds a place to bunk down for the season. But David has no idea that he is about to be forced to change the course of his entire life. When the settlement he intended to stay at is destroyed, he wanders the frozen countryside and begins encountering other survivors, many of them attractive, inhuman woman, looking for the same thing he is: comfort, companionship, and a place to call home...
